Man Proposes to Girlfriend with Dress Made from 9,999 Red Roses

This is just the stuff that fairytales are made of. The beautiful princess walks off into the sunset with her prince charming, dressed in a gown made from thousands of roses. You’d never think it could happen in real life, but it has. In an incredibly romantic gesture, this guy in China had a dress out of 9,999 deep red roses made for his girlfriend. After she put on the dress, he proposed.
Initially Xiao Fan considered proposing with only the roses, but realizing his girlfriend’s love for fashion, he decided to go a step further and get them sewn onto a dress. So the flowers were stitched together carefully to make a sweeping floral gown, fit for a bride. Several dressmakers worked round the clock on the project to get it completed on time. I think it’s pretty amazing how they managed it, keeping the flowers so fresh and lovely.

Yin Mi, the lucky girlfriend, had the gown adjusted on her on the day of the proposal. On top of the rose gown, she wore an ivory-white fur shrug and also held a bouquet of yellow orchids. The event took place on the grounds of Chime-Long Paradise amusement park in Guangdong province. The place was chosen because that’s where the happy couple met for the first time, when Yin Mi was crowned Miss Bikini 2009.

The dress that Mr. Fan had made is not just breathtaking, but also pretty symbolic. The number 9 in Chinese culture is said to represent ‘forever’. The orchids are known to symbolize love, beauty and virtue. Mr. Fan has obviously won top brownie points from his girlfriend, seeing that she happily accepted his proposal. But I do think he’s set some pretty high expectations with her as far as romance is concerned, and he’s going to have to live up to them all his life!

Chinese Billionaire Sells Canned Fresh Air to Raise Awareness about the Environment

It was bound to happen at some point, I guess. Chen Guangbiao, a famous Chinese businessman and philanthropist, has recently launched a line of canned fresh air collected from various parts of China and Taiwan. The product is called “Chen Guangbiao: Nice Guy” and sells for about $0,80.
It’s no secret China has a huge air pollution problem, but while authorities don’t seem to be taking any action to resolve it, billionaire Chen Guangbiao, aka “Brother Biao” is trying to raise awareness in a very original way. He has recently started selling canned fresh air collected from “revolutionary” areas of China, including Jinggang Mountain in Jiangxi Province and some ethnic minority areas and Taiwan. ”One only has to open the can, directly ‘drink’ it or put the nose close to the can to breath deeply,” Chen said. He also mentioned there is a chip in the can, and during the “packaging process”, when the negative oxygen ions reach a certain concentration the lid is triggered by the chip and closed. And since the air is compressed, it stays inside the can even without a lid, the quirky philanthropist claimed. Before the big launch of ”Chen Guangbiao: Nice Guy” canned air, Brother Biao said he was confident of its success, because there are lots of people in big cities inhaling air mixed with vehicle exhaust every day who are dying for a breath of fresh air.

Chen first announced his big idea back in August, but it received some negative feedback from Internet users who accused the philanthropist of showing off and questioned his right to sell the air, since it doesn’t really belong to him. In the meantime, Brother Biao has changed his marketing strategy, and now says his not only fresh, but also comes from revolutionary areas of China. He’s also mentioned he will be donating part of the proceeds to the Chinese military, to support their effort in defending the Diaoyu Islands. And if that wasn’t enough t convince people to buy his canned air, he also told them to hold on to the empty cans, as he will buy them back in 10 years, for about$7 each.

But come on, nobody’s going to fall for the old canned air routine, right? Wrong, ”Chen Guangbiao: Nice Guy” air cans were flying off the shelves from the first day they were introduced, and they sold out in a matter of days. Just goes to show you people will buy anything… It’s clear this wasn’t about making a profit, since Chen is actually a billionaire, and 100,000 cans at $0.80 is probably pocket change for him, but maybe he just likes to prove to himself that he can actually sell anything.

Heartbreaking: Thai Man Marries Dead Girlfriend

In this tragic love story from Thailand, a man decided to  go ahead with the wedding he and his girlfriend had planned, even though she sadly died in a car crash, just day before the big event. 29-year old Sarinya Kamsook and her 28-year-old boyfriend, Chadil Deffy, were to be married this year. A wedding is considered the most special event of a woman’s life and it was no different for Sarinya. She was eagerly counting the days to the moment when she would finally say ‘I do’, along with the love of her life, but fate had other plans for the young couple. Merely days before the wedding, Sarinya was involved in a car crash, leaving her severely injured. She still could have been saved with timely medical attention. However, the doctors made her wait for 6 hours due to an overcrowded ICU instead of transferring her to another hospital. During this time, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

Deffy and Sarinya had been together for 10 years, before they finally decided to settle down. They had postponed the wedding several times, due to busy schedules and the fact that Deffy wanted to complete his education before he got married. However, after Sarinya’s untimely death, he couldn’t let her go without fulfilling her deepest desire. So, he decided to marry her anyway. On the 4th of January, in Buddhist ceremony, Deffy married the corpse of his girlfriend. The event took place in Surin, a city in northern Thailand. During the ceremony, he expressed his devotion and deep love for Sarinya. Several friends and relatives attended the wedding, and it was even aired on national television in Thailand. The story, along with pictures from the wedding have now become an internet sensation, sparking several debates.

Young Japanese Women Rent Out Their Bare Legs as Advertising Space

A good way to make sure your advertisement gets plenty of exposure is to place it where a lot of people are looking. With this important marketing rule in mind, one Japanese advertising service is offering brands a novel way to raise awareness to their business – placing advertising stickers on the bare thighs of young girls. Japanese PR company Absolute Territory PR has begun paying young women to wear advertising stickers on their “absolute territory” – the part of their thighs between the edge of their miniskirts and their high socks. Apparently this area of the female thigh is very popular with Japanese men, as evidenced by the fact that it even has its own Facebook page. You’d think such a daring way of advertising would be frowned upon by most girls, but as of November of last year, over 1,300 girls had applied for the agency’s service, and their number is growing fast.

Girls interested in having their thighs registered with Absolute Territory must be at least 18 years old, and also have a social media account connected to at least 20 other people. After choosing a sticker ad, they have to wear it for at least eight hours a day, or more, for a set period of time, in order to meet the conditions of the contract and receive payment. Once the ad is stamped on their thighs, they can get on with their daily lives, while wearing revealing skirts as often as possible and showing off their legs. Of course, not being a hikikomori helps a lot, as staying in isolation kind of beats the whole purpose. In fact, to prove they are actively going out and promoting their thigh ads, girls have to post photos of themselves wearing the stickers on their Facebook, Twitter or other social media accounts.

According to recent reports, Japanese businesses aren’t the only ones using the unique service to have a leg up on the competition. Rock band Green Bay have employed Absolutr Territory to promote the Japanese release of their new CD “!Uno!”.

The Woman Who Sees Everything Upside Down

Bojana Danilovic, a young woman from Serbia, suffers from a strange condition that has left both doctors and scientists baffled. The 28-year economics graduate sees everything upside down.
Experts from Harvard University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who examined Bojana Danilovic say she suffers from a rare brain condition called ’spatial orientation phenomenon’. In layman’s terms that means her eyes see things the right way, but for some reason her brain changes them. Although there have been some similar cases recorded in history, Bojana’s case is truly unique. Everything in her life has been backwards, even the way she came into this world – feet first. Her parents remember that when she first started crawling, she would always move backwards, and when she began to walk, she did it in reverse. The remarkable young woman says her mother had to take a leave from her job in order to teach her to walk like all the other children. It took a lot of practice, but she finally managed to walk forward. Only this was only the beginning of a very unusual life.

Bojana’s bizarre problems continued when she started writing. She would turn the blank piece of paper upside down, start from the lower right corner and finish in the upper left corner. Her teachers and classmates all tried to help her correct her style, but it was all in vain. It was the only way letters made sense to her. Later, she got a job at the municipal administration, in her home town of Uzice, where her colleagues were left flabbergasted after she turned the keyboard and monitor of her computer upside down, so she could make sense of her work. At home, she has to turn the TV on its head to watch her favorite show, while her family has to use another one. She always holds her mobile phone and newspaper upside down, and often gets approached by people who tell her she’s reading it wrong.

Bojana Danilovic’s bizarre condition first attracted the attention of American scientists a few years ago. After subjecting her to several tests they established her brain is perfectly healthy, but has a different field of view than most people’s. Although they haven’t yet come up with an explanation for Bojana’s unique brain configuration, they offered to make her job easier by creating a special software so she wouldn’t have to turn the monitor upside down all the time.
“It may look incredible to other people but to me it’s completely normal,” the young Serbian told local reporters. ”I was born that way. It’s just the way I see the world.” Her biggest regret is she can’t get a driever’s license.

People Living in Metal Cages [Dark Side of Hong Kong]

Hong Kong is generally known the world over for its material comforts and affluent lifestyle. But there’s a dark  it as well that not many are aware of. Parallel to the wealthy citizens of Hong Kong there exists a community that is unable to cope with skyrocketing housing prices. These people are quite literally forced to live in tiny metal cages.

What’s worse is that the cages don’t come for free either. Stacked on top of each other, the 1.5 sq m enclosuress can be rented at a price of 1,300 Hong Kong dollars (about US $167) per month. These cages are crammed into a single dilapidated apartment in a working-class neighborhood in West Kowloon. Believe it or not, these metal living quarters are home to a whopping 100,000 people, according to statistics provided by a social welfare group called the Society for Community Organization. Other types of inadequate housing include apartments subdivided into tiny cubicles or filled with coffin-sized wood and metal sleeping compartments as well as rooftop shacks. Only two toilet stalls are available in each apartment and have to be shared by hundreds of single, elderly men, who make up the majority of the cage-occupants. No kitchen as such is provided; there’s only a small room with a sink. Almost all the men wash their clothes in a bucket. Instead of using mattresses, the men use thin pads, bamboo mats or old linoleum in their cages to keep the bedbugs away.

Leung Cho-yin is one of them. The 67-year-old former butcher says, “I’ve been bitten so much, I’m used to it.” Revealing a red mark on his hand, he says, “There’s nothing you can do about it. I’ve got to live here. I’ve got to survive.” Leung has been living in a cage for 20 years now, ever since he stopped working after losing part of a finger. He didn’t have much of an education to fall back on, so he has only been able to find intermittent work. He has no family and doesn’t want to apply for public housing because he’d have to leave his cage-mates and live alone. So he expects to spend the rest of his life in the cage.

It’s not that the people who do apply for public housing get to move out quickly. A recent survey revealed that almost 75% of 500 low-income families have been on the list for over 4 years without being given a flat. 63-year-old Lee Tat-fong is one of them. She hopes that she and her two grandchildren can get out of their cubicle apartment as soon as possible. In spite of suffering from diabetes and back problems, she has been taking care of the young children ever since their father disappeared. Their mother hasn’t been able to get a permit to come to Hong Kong from mainland China. For now, the family-of-three lives in a 50 sq ft room, one-seventh of an existing apartment. The communal kitchen and two toilets are shared with the other residents. “There’s too little space here,” she says. “We can barely breathe. It’s exhausting and sometimes I get so pent up with anger that I cry, but no one sees because I hide away.”

Home prices in Hong Kong rose 23% in the first 10 months of 2012, and have doubled since 2008. Rental values have suffered the same fate as well. Low interest rates and easy credit are one of the many causes for this. Because of these soaring costs, decent homes become unaffordable to a large percentage of the population leading to anger and resentment towards the government. Things were pretty bad until Hong Kong’s ex-chief executive Donald Tsang held office. Many say that he ignored the problem completely. But ever since Leung Chun-ying took over last July, things have been looking up because he has acknowledged the issue and is trying to fix it. “Many families have to move into smaller or older flats, or even factory buildings,” he said. “Cramped living space in cage homes, cubicle apartments and sub-divided flats has become the reluctant choice for tens of thousands of Hong Kong people.” Chun-ying recently unveiled plans to boost the supply of public housing. Unfortunately, most of the cage dwellers have little or no faith in what the government can do for them.

Wordless Wednesday

This morning I jumped on my horse
And went for a ride,
And some wild outlaws chased me
And shot me in the side.
So I crawled into a wildcats cave
To find a place to hide
But some pirates found me sleeping there
And soon they had me tied
To a pole and built a fire
Under me---I almost cried
Till a mermaid came and cut me loose
And begged to be my bride
So I said id come back on WordlessWednesday

But I must admit I lied.
Then I ran into a jungle swamp
But I forgot my guide
And I stepped into some quicksand
And no matter how hard I tried
I couldn’t get out, until I met
A watersnake named Clyde
Who pulled me to some cannibals
Who planned to have me fried
But an eagle came and swooped me up
And through the air we flied
But he dropped me in a boiling lake
A thousand miles wide
And you’ll never guess what I did then---
I DIED”

The Giving Tree

Once there was a tree…… And she loved little boy. And every day the boy would come And he would gather her leaves And make them into crowns and play king of the forest. He would climb up her trunk And swing from her branches And when he was tired,he would sleep in her shade. And the boy loved the tree…..Very much..And the tree was happy. But time went by, And the boy grew older. And the tree was often alone. Then one day the boy came to the tree and the tree said: –”Come, Boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be “happy” –“I am too big to climb and play”said the boy. “I want to buy thing and have fun. I want some money. Can you give me some money?” –”I’m sorry” said the tree,”but I have no money. I have only leaves and apples. Take my apples, Boy, and sell them in city. Then you will have money and you’ll be happy” And so the boy climb up the tree and gathered her apples and carried them away. And the tree was happy… But the boy stayed away for a long time…… and the tree was sad. And then one day the boy came back and the tree shook with joy, and she said: –”Come, Boy come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be “happy”.. –“I am too busy to climb trees,” said the boy. “I want a house to keep me warm,” he said. “I want a wife and I want children, and so I need a house. Can you give me a house?” –“I have no house” said the tree. The forest is my house.” said the tree “but you may cut off my branches and build a house. Then you will be happy” And so the boy cut off her branches and carried them away to build a house. And the tree was happy. But the boy stayed away for a long time……and the tree was sad. And when he came back, the tree was so happy she could hardly speak. –“Come, Boy” she whispered, “Come and play” –“I am too old and sad to play.”said the boy. “I want a boat that will take me away from here. Can you give me a boat ?”
–“Cut down my trunk and make a boat,” said the tree. “Then you can sail away…… and be happy.” And so the boy cut down her trunk And made a boat and sailed away. And the tree was happy…..But not really. And after a long time the boy came back again. –“I am sorry, Boy,”said the tree, “but I have nothing left to give you— My apples are gone.” –“My teeth are too weak for apple,”said the boy. –“My branches are gone,” said the tree.”You cannot swing on them—” –”I am too old to swing on branches” said the boy. –“My trunk is gone,” said the tree.“You cannot climb—-” –”I am too tired to climb,” said the boy. –“I am sorry” sighed the tree. “I wish that I could give you something… but I have nothing left. I am just an old stump. I am sorry…” –”I don’t need very much now” said the boy. “just a quiet place to sit and rest. I am very tired” –“Well” said the tree, straightening herself up as much as she could, “well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit down…and rest.” And the tree was happy..
The end.
